I was lucky enough to get tickets to this event before it sold out. The venue was Waid's Place - a tiny Haitian restaurant that seemed far too small for a fire event and was pretty packed when we got there. Luckily there was at least one sofa which nobody had claimed in the back so myself, Patrick, Toby and Juliet sat there. While waiting for Juliet to arrive it was a challenge to keep people from invading our couch. But eventually the show started and while it was a bit of a challenge to see the performers it was still worth it.
Fire performances included a beautiful pair of wings, hula hoops, 10' bull whip, jump rope, and other items. The bull whip was by far the most terrifying thing I've ever seen - especially in that small space. There was an acrobatic duo who had an extremely intense performance, a man who did amazing things with both a glass ball and a ball of fire, very pretty fan veil things, an insane veil performance by Dahlia who could probably play guitar with her hips, and finally Unmata's flying hips of fury. Those ladies are incredible to watch. Definitely one of the most engaging exciting routines I have seen.
There is a sword workshop in Bothell this weekend which I think I will attend. It's only $35 for a two hour class on the history, care, and choosing of swords including a short choreography to learn. I love me some swords so it's right up my alley. Screw the veil! Gimmie swords!
